How to Add a Weather Widget to GeoDirectory Listing Pages
Weather can be useful information on a location-based directory, especially when someone is looking at a place they plan to visit. The GeoBuddy Weather Widget add-on puts an interactive forecast on a GeoDirectory listing page and uses the listing’s address to choose the location automatically.
Here is how to install the add-on, add its block to a single listing template, and configure the map and forecast.
What You’ll Learn
- The weather add-on can use each listing’s address to display a location-specific forecast.
- Add the GD Weather Forecast widget to the GeoDirectory single page template.
- Configure the widget’s size, coordinates, zoom level, and location marker.
- Use the interactive map to explore hourly forecasts and weather layers.
Install and activate the weather add-on
- Log in to your WordPress dashboard and open Plugins.
- Click Add Plugin, upload the GeoBuddy Weather Widget add-on, and install it.
- Click Activate Plugin.
After activation, a GeoDirectory Forecast menu appears in the dashboard. Its welcome page provides access to documentation, help, and the GeoDirectory community. The Settings tab is where you choose a weather provider.
Choose a weather provider
The add-on offers Windy and Tomorrow.io options. Windy is the option used for this setup. If you choose Tomorrow.io instead, you need to obtain an API key and enter it in the add-on settings.
For the steps below, select Windy in the provider settings, then move to a place listing on the front end of your site.

Add the forecast to your single listing template
Open a place’s single listing page and choose Edit Site to edit the GeoDirectory single page template. The weather widget can go wherever it fits best in that template.
- Click the + inserter at the position where you want the forecast.
- Search for weather.
- Insert the GD Weather Forecast widget.
By default, the widget uses the latitude and longitude associated with the listing’s address. That means the same template can show location-specific weather across your place listings without entering coordinates for each one.

Configure the widget
With the weather block selected, use its settings to adjust its appearance and location:
- Title: Add a heading such as “Listing Weather” if you want to label the forecast.
- Width and height: Set the space the widget occupies in your layout. Its default width is 100%.
- Latitude and longitude: Leave these fields at their defaults to use the listing’s location, or enter coordinates manually to show weather for a specific point.
- Zoom level: Adjust how closely the map focuses on the location. The demonstrated default is level five.
- Show marker: Turn this on to mark the location on the map.
Save the template, then refresh a single listing page to check the result. If the map’s focus or size does not suit your page, return to the template and adjust the block settings.
Explore the forecast on the listing page
The finished widget shows weather on an interactive map. Its playback control moves through the forecast over the next seven days, making it possible to inspect changes by day and hour. Selecting a point on the map brings up more detailed forecast information.

The map also has selectable weather layers. Use them to switch between conditions such as wind, rain, and temperature, or explore the other available layers. Map controls let you change the zoom directly on the listing page.

Why Location Based Weather Adds Value to a Directory
Weather is not just extra information when it is connected to a specific place. It can help people make faster decisions and understand what to expect before visiting a location.
The Weather Forecast add-on is a strong fit for:
- Travel and tourism directories
- Local business and city directories
- Real estate listing websites
- Outdoor activity and adventure directories
- Beach, marina, hotel, and resort listings
- Any GeoDirectory website where local conditions matter
Because the widget reads each listing’s coordinates by default, it can scale across your directory without manually configuring a weather location for every listing.
